Just as any parent would, we take safeguarding very seriously. At all our Little Explorers nurseries we carefully vet all prospective staff during the interview process and carry out DBS checks regularly.
First aid is also a high priority of ours. As part of their continuing professional development, all staff must attend courses to keep their skills up to date, including risk assessment, health and safety and first aid. Did you know that we are currently in the process of applying for the Millie's Trust first aid accreditation?
We also take the security of the buildings very seriously, with high-reach locks on all door exits and a buzzer entry system to ensure that no one is allowed free access into the nurseries. Fences and gates are always fully secured, and play equipment both inside and outside is regularly checked for wear and tear.
All our children have a designated key worker, and rooms are themed for different age ranges to ensure the child to adult ratios are always adhered to. We also teach children to learn about and understand the risks of their surroundings and their ramifications.
As well as these policies and procedures, our staff are also trained to detect child protection issues in the home and help signpost parents who need additional support with their children.
We also have strict security measures in place if you or your nominated person are unable to collect your child. But most importantly we take the time to get to know our parents. We believe that by knowing mum and dad's name, and being aware of when granny is doing the pick-up that week, it gives our nurseries the personal touch.
Within the four walls at Little Explorers there are no raised voices. We believe in making the children feel loved and secure, and unlike many nurseries, many of our staff are mums themselves so they have bundles of one particular skill - patience!
